A library deemed not to be fit for purpose is set to close for urgent refurbishments.

Eastleigh Library in the Swan Centre will shut to the public from 7-12 March, after years without a major review to its layout.

Hampshire County Council said the facility no longer met the demands of its users and some of its furniture urgently needed replacing.

The children's area will be redecorated and the adult library rearranged.

The layout of the library will also be reconfigured to create more space for children's activities, adult groups and events, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Overdue fees on items due back during this closure period will be scrapped.

During the closure, visitors will be directed to Chandlers Ford, Hedge End, Bishops Waltham and Winchester libraries instead.
