Cowes Lifeboat and crew kit get a much-needed hose-down following the mud rescue

Two teenagers have been rescued after becoming stuck in dense mud on the north coast of the Isle of Wight.

The pair, a girl aged 15 and a boy, 16, were found trapped up to their knees as darkness fell off Thorness shortly after 17:20 GMT on Sunday.

Lifeboat and fire crews, coastguard rescue teams and helicopter were sent to the shore where sea water was found rising towards their waists.

Both were pulled safely from the thick mud and taken to the shore.

Cowes RNLI Lifeboat said crews returned to the lifeboat station shortly before 21:00.
