Isle of Wight: Skipper trapped by table rescued from yacht
- Published
A sailor had to be saved when he got himself wedged behind a table inside a yacht.
A coastguard helicopter and a lifeboat crew were sent to search for the boat at about 18:30 GMT on Sunday after it was reported missing.
An RNLI crew found the trapped skipper on the 25ft (7.6m) yacht in the Newtown Creek area of the Isle of Wight.
Unable to free him, the crew rushed back to shore to collect a coastguard team who were able to remove the table.
The sailor was taken to hospital following the three-hour rescue mission, the coastguard said.
Cowes RNLI said rescuers struggled to manoeuvre the casualty out due to the small size of the yacht.
Once the man was released, and with the tide rapidly changing, independent lifeboat Solent Rescue stepped in to help, as its boat had a shallow hull and was deemed the safest option to get the casualty to shore.
