Red Funnel said it was sorry for the disruption to passengers

High-speed passenger ferries across the Solent have been suspended "until further notice".

Red Funnel confirmed its Red Jet service was not running on Saturday due to "an unexpected technical issue".

The company said a problem had been found in Red Jet 7's propulsion system, adding that its technical team was working to resolve the issue.

Speculation from customers online about the delays being caused by a collision was "unfounded", it added.

Red Funnel's vehicle ferry was still in operation and running to timetable.

In a statement, the company apologised for the disruption and urged passengers to check online, external before travelling.
