Southampton McDonald's shut down after cockroach sighting

A McDonald's restaurant has been shut down after a cockroach was spotted.
The branch in Shirley Road, Southampton, has been temporarily closed while pest controllers investigate the issue.
A spokeswoman for the fast food chain apologised and said the restaurant was being thoroughly cleaned and sanitised.
The site would remain closed until experts were "completely confident" the problem has been fully resolved, she added.
McDonald's told the BBC it had notified Southampton City Council about the sighting.
The restaurant has held a food hygiene rating of five since 2011, with the most recent visit conducted in January 2024, their spokeswoman said.
It is not yet known when the branch will reopen.
