The body of a man and a dog were discovered following a fire at a house on the Isle of Wight.

The blaze on Gaggerhill Lane, Brighstone, broke out in the early hours on Tuesday.

Crews from five stations across the island fought the flames which ripped through the property causing the roof to collapse.

Police said the man, aged in his 40s, and a dog were found dead. His next of kin have been informed.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said the cause of the incident remains under investigation.

People living nearby had to leave their homes overnight while crews worked to stop the fire spreading to neighbouring properties.
