Cowes Floating Bridge: Chain ferry out of action for repairs
- Published

Floating Bridge 6 has been beset with problems since it was introduced in May 2017
The Isle of Wight's troubled chain ferry has been pulled from service for repairs.
The Floating Bridge, which runs between Cowes and East Cowes was suspended at 08:00 BST.
Isle of Wight Council said it needed a repair to a passenger gate and also its east prow.
The authority said further work was also needed on the west prow with the ferry expected to be out of action until 14:00 on Tuesday.
A launch service will be in place for foot passengers and cyclists, with drivers having to make a 12-mile (19km) detour via Newport.
After years of issues with the vessel since it came into service in 2017, Isle of Wight Council has decided to replace the £3.2m ferry.
