A festive sign welcoming visitors to Leominster town centre has been stolen, police said.

The 16.4ft x 4ft (5m x 1.2m) 'Merry Christmas' sign was stolen from a trailer parked near West Street late on Wednesday evening.

The sign, which was said to be one of a kind and worth more than £1,000, was intended for the town's South Street.

West Mercia Police said the theft was being investigated and have appealed for witnesses.

Leominster's lights will be lit up on the evening of November 27.
