Police hunting the killer of a retired Worcestershire teacher have issued a description of clothing she was wearing and her car.

Betty Yates, 77, used her silver Skoda Fabia to visit friends in Bewdley on 2 January and was found stabbed to death at her cottage home two days later.

She was wearing a hip-length, vertically striped dark red, olive green and grey jacket.

Since an initial appeal about 100 people have contacted police.

Detectives want to speak to anyone who may have seen Ms Yates between the afternoon of Monday, 2 January, and Wednesday, 4 January.

Det Ch Insp Neil Jamieson said: "The smallest detail could help us put together the jigsaw."

He said more than 50 officers and staff are working on the inquiry, including search teams who are still scouring the area around the cottage, forensic specialists and officers making house-to-house inquiries.

Jackie Cocken, the former headmistress of Foley First School in Streetly where Ms Yates taught, said: "She was such a pleasant person, you can't believe someone would want to do such a thing."
