Three staff at HMP Hewell are investigated

Two members of staff at a Worcestershire prison have been excluded and a third suspended in separate investigations.

Two workers at HMP Hewell, not employed by the Prison Service, have been excluded over allegations of criminal behaviour, a spokesman said.

West Mercia Police is investigating both incidents at the Redditch jail.

A woman was also arrested and in May and later bailed over the alleged theft of a prescription pad, police said.

Internal investigation

"A woman from Bromsgrove was arrested in connection with the matter on 12 May, 2012, and she is currently on police bail until 10 August this year, pending further inquiries," he added.

A spokesman for the Prison Service said: "Two staff working at HMP Hewell but not employed by the Prison Service have been excluded from the prison after allegations of criminal behaviour.

"The police have been informed about both incidents and are investigating.

"A member of staff from HMP Hewell has been suspended pending the outcome of an internal investigation."
