River Teme flood warnings after heavy rain in Worcestershire

Flood warnings are expected to remain in place along the River Teme in Worcestershire until Sunday, the Environment Agency (EA) has said.

Tenbury Wells, Leigh, Shelsley Walsh, Eardiston, Knightwick and Stanford Bridge were the areas most at risk earlier following heavy overnight rain.

The river level peaked in Tenbury at 4.8m (15ft 9in) before 11:00 BST.

Flood alerts remain in place on other rivers including the Severn and Frome in Herefordshire.

An EA spokesman said the area along the River Teme was its main concern.

Dave Throup from the EA said the heaviest of the rain had fallen in a "triangle between Ludlow, Tenbury and Cleobury Mortimer".

He said: "There's been over two inches in the last 24 hours and over three inches in the last three days."

The A456 at Newnham Bridge was closed after cars were stranded in floodwater.
