Worcestershire County Council sells assets to help save £90m

Worcestershire County Council has sold off some of its assets in an attempt to help make £90m worth of savings.

Unused agricultural land and old school buildings are among some of the 18 sites being sold.

Peter Parkes, head of property services for the council, said: "The idea is to make better use of land, for example one site will be a new health centre and another will be a nursery."

The Conservative-led authority needs to save £90m by 2017.

When sold, Mr Parkes said the 18 sites would generate about £14m of capital receipts but underlined the council needed to save much more.
