Consultation over 23,000 south Worcestershire homes

Another public consultation has begun over plans to build more than 23,000 new homes in south Worcestershire.

Malvern Hills District Council, Worcester City Council and Wychavon District Council have jointly produced the proposals.

The number of homes was increased to 23,200 following last year's public consultation. Residents have until 14 September to discuss the new plans.

Over 10,000 have already been built or been given planning permission.

The South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP) will form the basis for decisions in the south of the county up to 2030.

The plan originally called for 20,360 new homes in the area.

Anne Bonsor, the service manager for regeneration and business engagement at Worcester City Council, said they received more than 2,000 responses from people about the SWDP first time round.

Ms Bonsor said: "I think a lot of people already know about it. It's a plan that's been in preparation almost as long as it's taken to prepare for the Olympics.

"[Parish councils] have all been informed about the consultation that's going on and we've written to all those who responded last time."
