IPCC inquiry into Taser stun gun roof fall in Worcester

An incident in which a man fell off a porch roof after police officers fired an electric stun gun at him is being investigated by the police watchdog.

The 44-year-old, who had a knife and hammer, was damaging tiles in Worcester on 10 August, the Independent Police Complaints Commission said.

The Taser was used after negotiations and led to him falling about 8ft (2.4m) and suffering minor bruising.

The IPCC said it would consider whether the use of the weapon was appropriate.

IPCC commissioner Rachel Cerfontyne said: "Our independent investigation will focus on the overall police management of this incident, together with the actions and decision-making of the officers involved.

"We will consider the appropriateness of the use of Taser and what tactical options were available to police in the circumstances."

The man, who was a relative of the occupants at the property in Warndon, was detained under the Mental Health Act after the incident.

He has since admitted criminal damage and fined at Worcester Magistrates' Court, the IPCC added.
