Herefordshire and Worcestershire MPs call for 'better train services'

Commuters in Herefordshire and Worcestershire would benefit from better train services to London, say MPs.

Five MPs representing people living in the two counties have told Transport Minister Simon Burns improvements need to be made to the Cotswold Line.

Mid Worcestershire MP Peter Luff said Mr Burns recognised the need for a Worcestershire Parkway station.

Mr Burns said he would write to the MPs "as soon as possible to clarify what actions we plan to take".

Worcestershire Parkway station, which would be built close to junction seven of the M5 motorway, requires £200m of investment.

Plans for the county's third station are part of the Worcester Transport Strategy.

Mr Luff has also written a letter along with MP for West Worcestershire Harriett Baldwin, Worcester MP Robin Walker, MP for Hereford Jesse Norman and Bill Wiggin, north Herefordshire MP.

The letter calls for "a faster and more frequent train service".
