Worcestershire surgeon Sudip Sarker investigated by trust

A consultant surgeon is being investigated after concerns were raised about his work.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said Sudip Sarker, a consultant colorectal surgeon, was suspended last October after "a number of concerns" had been raised about him.

These concerns prompted the trust to alert the Royal College of Surgeons in July last year.

The trust is working with the coroner and the General Medical Council (GMC).

The trust said three deaths have been referred to a coroner.

Mr Sarker had worked at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch since August 2011.

The GMC has confirmed Mr Sarker's fitness to practise was being investigated and he has been subject to a number of conditions against his registration since February which will last until August 2014.

The Royal College of Surgeons confirmed it has carried out a review for the trust.

Staff at the trust have been revisiting the medical records of all of Mr Sarker's patients and a helpline and dedicated email address has been set up for any patients who have concerns.
