The new pool would be built at Perdiswell leisure centre

Plans to build a new swimming pool in Worcester could be revised to make it bigger, the city council has said.

The authority agreed on proposals in April for a 25m, six-lane pool for Perdiswell leisure centre.

At a meeting on Tuesday, it decided to review the possibility of building an eight-lane pool which they said could "bring more economic benefits".

The project could cost about £6.5m and talks were being held with Sport England and funding bodies, it said.

Councillor David Wilkinson, who is in charge of the project said: "We want enhanced facilities for learners, which may well mean eight lanes, but we'll have to consider how much poolside space is needed and how many spectators we cater for."

The council said a final decision on the plans would be made in September, with the new pool expected to open in 2016.
