More than 50 firefighters have been tackling a large blaze at an industrial laundry in Herefordshire.

Ten fire engines and two aerial ladders were among appliances sent to Overross Industrial Estate, Ross-on-Wye, after the call-out at about 01:50 BST.

Incident commander Gareth Clarke said no-one was injured in the fire, which has destroyed Clean's premises.

Crews at the Netherton Road site worked to stop the fire spreading to other buildings.

"But the building itself was so well involved when they pulled up that trying to save this building was not really an option by then," Mr Clarke said.

Part of the roof has collapsed and some fire crews have remained on the scene damping down hot spots and making the site safe.

Mr Clarke said the premises was made mainly of sandwich panels which lose their structure and walls when hot, adding "the building will probably have to come down before people can go in there again".

Clean specialises in laundry services for the hospitality industry and in linen and workwear rental, its website says.

Earlier, Ade Farmer, group commander at Hereford and Worcester Fire Service, said firefighters were helped by crews from south Wales and they made good progress "through the early hours".
