Welsh Water has been dealing with a number of burst pipes due to the "rapid thaw"

A number of homes and businesses have been left without water in Hereford.

Others experienced low pressure and were told by Welsh Water normal service would resume by Monday evening.

The supplier is dealing with a number of burst pipes due to the "rapid thaw" following prolonged sub-zero temperatures.

Provider Severn Trent says households in Evesham have also experienced water interruptions due to a burst pipe.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused," it said.

A Welsh Water spokesperson said prolonged freezing temperatures plus the thaw resulted in ground movement that caused a number of leaks across its network.

"We are aware of an issue in the Hereford and Ross on Wye area with intermittent supplies to some customers as we locate and fix leaks in this area," they said.

"We would like to apologise to customers there for any inconvenience caused and assure them that we are working as quickly as possible to restore supplies to normal."

In some areas of the UK, bottled water stations have been set up due to the number of people affected by conditions.

More than 15,000 properties in Kent and Sussex are without water, or face low pressure, after pipes burst due to snow and ice thawing.
