Emergency crews were sent to a house in Boughton Avenue on Wednesday morning

A woman has suffered potentially life-changing injuries after being attacked by a dog at a house in Worcester.

Two men were also hurt, with one suffering serious injuries in the attack in Boughton Avenue at about 09:10 BST.

The dog was dead when West Mercia Police officers arrived at the scene, the force said.

A neighbour told BBC News they heard "a lot of screaming [and] shouting" before emergency crews appeared.

"It was a bit manic," they said.

Another neighbour described the injured woman as a "lovely lady" and said they were shocked at what had happened.

Paramedics said the 68-year-old woman was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

Breed of dog

Supt Rebecca Love, policing commander for south Worcestershire, said it had initially been thought the victim had suffered life-threatening injuries, but the hospital had later said that was no longer the case.

A 38-year-old man was taken to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital with injuries which were not life-threatening, and the second man was treated for less serious injuries and discharged at the scene.

Supt Love said an investigation would establish the breed of the dog and whether further action was needed.

The animal was owned by a person living at the house, she confirmed.

It died during the incident when "the family were trying to stop it from harming the individuals and in prevention of it causing any more injury," the force said.

"Obviously this incident is a very, very tragic incident, but these types of incidents are extremely rare within Worcestershire and West Mercia itself," she said.
