A driver had to be rescued by boat after his lorry became stuck in floodwater.

Crews cordoned off the scene in Worcestershire as they used a specialist inflatable boat to bring him to safety.

He became stuck as Storm Babet battered the country, with heavy rain caused the River Teme at Lindridge, near Tenbury Wells to burst its banks.

The A443 where the driver was rescued had been completely submerged.

"Particularly here at Lindridge, the water gets very deep, the water is fast flowing and even the biggest lorries can get stuck," said crew commander Dan Roberts-James, of Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.

"We would advise people not to drive through floodwater, it's very dangerous, there's lots of unseen hazards in the water and it's contaminated."

Flooding is likely to continue in areas near major rivers until Tuesday, the Environment Agency has warned.

Three people in the UK are known to have died as the storm swept across the country, causing widespread flooding and high winds.

Among them was a man aged in his 60s, who got caught in fast-flowing flood water in the town of Cleobury Mortimer in Shropshire on Friday.
