Jesse Norman: MP resigns from government to focus on local issues

Jesse Norman said he will fight for his seat in the next general election

MP Jesse Norman has resigned as Minister of State for the Department for Transport.

In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, he said he was looking forward to more freedom to campaign on the River Wye and other crucial issues.

The MP for Hereford and South Herefordshire had been minister since 26 October 2022.

Mr Norman added he plans to fight for his seat in the next general election.

In his resignation letter, Mr Norman said: "I am especially glad to have laid the the Zero Emission Vehicle mandate and to have completed the new legislation for self-driving vehicles."

On the same day Mr Norman announced his resignation, former PM David Cameron was appointed as foreign secretary - seven years after he left Downing Street.

"Completely surprising but not at all unprecedented for prime ministers to come back as foreign secretaries, but it hasn't happened much recently." Mr Norman said.

"I wish him massive good luck obviously an enormously experienced international figure."
