A dad returned from a family trip to Wembley to find his house broken into and ransacked.

Jason Lawrence, from Malvern, discovered the break in on Friday when he returned from watching England face Malta with his two children.

Burglars had broken glass windows, stolen goods and taken Mr Lawrence's van from the drive in Queen Elizabeth Road.

West Mercia Police said it was investigating.

Mr Lawrence, who works as a painter and decorator, has since recovered his vehicle.

He told the BBC he noticed the upstairs lights were on when he returned home despite being convinced they were off when he left.

"I knew something was up [after] I stood on a load of glass [in] the porch," he said.

Thieves had used a crowbar to wedge the door open before breaking in, he added.

Precious family items made by his primary school aged children had been flung around by the intruders rummaging around his bedroom.

"This is a box that contains things that my children have made for me from nursery and reception up to the present day," he said.

"I keep it because everything that they have ever done means so much."

West Mercia Police said it received a call around 01:45 GMT on Saturday following reports of a burglary.

"Officers attended the property to find that someone had gained entry and taken items from the home along with a vehicle," a statement read.

The force added inquiries are ongoing.
