The dates by which two Herefordshire hotels will no longer be used to house asylum seekers have been confirmed.

Herefordshire Council said the Talbot Hotel in Leominster will be in use until the end of February.

The Three Counties Hotel in Hereford will stop housing asylum seekers at the end of March, according to the council's chief executive Paul Walker.

The hotels are two of a number across the UK set to be closed to asylum seekers.

In a speech he is due to give to councillors on Friday, Mr Walker said local communities had "continued to welcome people who are staying in contingency accommodation," while awaiting the outcome of their asylum applications.

"The support that has been shown to these people at a time of need underlines what a generous and compassionate county we live in," he said.

A number of asylum seekers were relocated from the Talbot Hotel in October due to emergency work to improve the building.
