Life never got back to normal after Bake Off - Saku Chandrasekara
- Published
A Great British Bake off contestant said her life "never got back to normal" since she appeared on the show.
Saku Chandrasekera, from Herefordshire, was one of 12 bakers in the latest series of the Channel 4 show.
She was eliminated from the tent in week seven, after the bakers were challenged to make crème caramels and treacle puddings.
Despite that, Ms Chandrasekera says her life has been "really busy" since the competition.
"It is a very busy time, it never got back to normal since I left the tent and when it started airing," she told BBC Hereford and Worcester.
"Whenever I go outside or go to work, go shopping or do whatever, there are people coming to talk to me and they're asking loads of questions.
"And now I have several invitations to attend events."
'Not a born Herefordian'
Ms Chandrasekera said she lived a "very quiet" life before the show, but now her life was "busier" and "louder".
"I am really enjoying that," she added.
She also praised the reaction from members of the public in Hereford.
"I didn't expect this at all," she said. "Because I am a Sri Lankan, not a born and bred Herefordian."
"So I thought because I am a stranger, they wouldn't care."
Ms Chandrasekera's children, Tharindi and Binara said it was "quite surreal" to watch their mum on television.
"I am pleased that everyone saw that crazy, fun mum we see everyday," daughter Tharindi said.
Her son, Binara, said it was "really difficult" to keep his mum's appearance on the show a secret.
"I just wanted to tell everyone that mum was on bake off," he explained.
