New Bromyard housing estate approved despite safety concerns

A 250-home extension to a Herefordshire town has finally been backed despite safety concerns.
The development on the Hardwick Bank site, Bromyard, was first proposed seven years ago.
Herefordshire Council's highways officer Katy Jones previously described the application as "only just about acceptable".
Concerns included fears children would be at risk along the busy adjoining main road.
Addressing them, Herefordshire Council planners put forward a late condition to the proposals, before councillors approved it on Wednesday.
It called on the developer, Vistry, to improve the pavement along the A44 between Upper Hardwick Lane and Winslow Road.
This was in anticipation of it being used by children from the new development to get to and from the Queen Elizabeth High School, planning officials said.
The proposal for outline permission was passed with one abstention.
This news was gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which covers councils and other public service organisations.
