Man arrested following incident in Worcester city centre

A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault following a "large police presence" in Worcester.

Officers were called to Stanley Street in the city centre at about 09:55 GMT on Saturday.

A 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault, threats to kill, rape and possession of an imitation firearm, West Mercia Police said.

Det Insp Catherine Taylor, said it was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the wider public.

"I understand that people may have been concerned regarding the large police presence in Worcester City Centre this morning," she said.

"A man was swiftly contained and arrested in connection with the incident, and he remains in police custody as further enquiries are carried out."
