Work to reduce flood risk in Beverley continues

Heavy rain caused devastating floods in 2007
Work to prevent a repeat of serious flooding in an East Yorkshire town is entering its second phase.
Beverley was among several parts of the UK to suffer when floods struck in June 2007.
Pipeline to carry millions of litres of water away from homes is being replaced between an area known as the Hurn and a tributary of nearby Sister Beck.
The council said it was one of 188 projects to reduce the risk of flooding in the East Riding.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council leader Stephen Parnaby said: "Following the floods of 2007 this council has been committed to working throughout the East Riding to reduce the risk of flooding to residents and businesses.
"I am sure anyone whose home or livelihood is in the East Riding will welcome this vital work, which will help to reduce the impact to the area of flooding if we find ourselves facing a similar situation again in the future."
Work is also due to start later this month on an embankment to channel water from the Westwood area into the new pipeline.
