Hurricane marks Hull Blitz 70th anniversary

A World War II Hurricane fighter plane has performed a flypast over Hull to mark the 70th anniversary of the worst two nights of the Hull Blitz.

More than 300 bombs were dropped on the city in 82 German air raids between 7 and 9 May 1941, killing 420 people.

The Hurricane twice circled the city's Carnegie Heritage Centre at West Park, which is staging a Hull Blitz exhibition, on Saturday.

The aircraft also overflew the Civilian Memorial in Northern Cemetery.

Flypast organiser Charles Dinsdale said: "The people of Hull owe great respect to the people in 1941.

"If it wasn't for those people Hull would not be what it is today. The morale was phenomenal."
