Humberside Police launches non-urgent 101 number

Humberside Police are to launch a non-emergency telephone number.

People will be able to contact the force by dialling 101, rather than 0845 6060222, from 7 November.

The move was revealed in a report to the Humberside Police Authority, which will discuss the matter at its meeting on Tuesday.

The line will cost up to £13,000 a year to run. All 43 police forces in England and Wales are expected to have a 101 line by the end of March 2012.

The report states: "It is anticipated that there will be a slight reduction in 999 dialled calls as members of the public will find it easier to access our non-emergency service."

Each call will cost 15p, regardless of its duration and whether the call is made from a landline or mobile.
