Lincolnshire's charge for garden bin collection on hold

Plans to charge householders £25 for garden waste collections have been put on hold by North East Lincolnshire Council.

The council said it needs to consider different money saving options.

The fee was part of a package of waste management measures aimed at saving the authority £2.5m over four years.

The decision was voted through by the council cabinet last week despite strong opposition.

At the time, councillor Keith Brookes said the move would discourage recycling.

But leader Chris Shaw said "tough decisions have to be made at tough times".
