Development work is due to start to prepare two major roads in East Yorkshire for upgrading.

Roads minister Mick Penning said work would start in 2015 on the improvement projects for the A63 Castle Street in Hull and the A160/A180 in Immingham.

Development work will be carried out over the next three years to prepare the roads.

Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce said the schemes were vital to the region's economic growth.

The projects will improve access to the Port of Immingham and reduce congestion in Hull.

Mr Penning said the development work would focus on designing and consulting on proposals, along with progressing any necessary statutory processes.

Hannah Crookes, from Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce, said: "After much lobbying, the chamber is pleased to hear the announcement that funding has been allocated for preparation work for A63 Castle Street and A160/A180 improvements."

She added: "The improvements of these roads are vital for the future economic growth of the region."
