Brigg Centrica biomass plant plans go on display

Plans for a biomass fuelled power station in North Lincolnshire have gone on public display.
Centrica PLC wants to build the wood burning plant on the site of a former sugar factory at Scawby Brook next to its gas-fired power station.
The energy company said the proposed plant would generate enough electricity to power 200,000 homes.
Some residents are concerned about an increase in traffic and the risk of flooding to homes.
Last October energy firm Eco2 was given planning permission to build a straw-burning power plant nearby, despite strong opposition from campaigners.
Creating jobs
Messingham parish councillor Neil Poole said: "Centrica's plant is effectively three-and-a-half times the size of the Eco2 plant.
"But it's not the visual amenity that's causing concern, it's also issues of flooding. We're only 25m away from the River Ancholme."
He said construction of the power station could lead to a disturbance to the water table, putting homes at risk of localised flooding.
Centrica said the biomass wood pellets, sourced from abroad, would be brought to the plant by rail.
The company has not revealed the cost of the plant, which it said would create 50 long-term posts and generate up to 500 jobs during the construction phase.
The plans were on show at the Angel Suite in Brigg until 16:00 BST on Saturday. It is part of a wider consultation on the plant.
