Bridlington RNLI pull drifting pleasure boat to safety

Bridlington RNLI tweeted a picure of its lifeboat pushing the boat to safety

Lifeboat crew members in East Yorkshire were called out in blizzard conditions after a pleasure cruiser broke from its moorings.

The RNLI said the Yorkshire Belle was drifting dangerously in the harbour at Bridlington on Friday evening and crews helped secure the vessel.

A yellow warning for further patchy snow remains for the Humber region with up to 2cm of fresh snow forecast.

Motorists are being urged to take extra care on the roads.

East Yorkshire buses said services were running as normal.

Humberside Airport is open but delays have been reported to some flights and passengers are advised to check with their airline before travelling.

The Fire and Rescue Service has urged people, especially dog walkers, to take extra care around frozen water.

Daryl Oprey, head of safety, said: "If you are a dog owner, I cannot urge you enough to keep your dog on a lead when walking them in areas where there are ponds or lakes.

"No matter how thick the ice may appear to be, this is usually not the case as it is only the very top surface of the water that has frozen."
