Plans for a biomass power station and eco park in Hull could create up to 700 jobs, it has been claimed.

Hull City Council said the proposal for the site of the former Hedon aerodrome on Hull Road, was "at a very early stage".

Developer Lateral Eco Park Hull Ltd said it was "holding productive discussions with local authorities".

The eco park proposal includes fish farming, growing vegetables and data storage facilities.

Councillor Martin Mancey said: "This proposal could provide hundreds of jobs for the city, as well as being a sustainable energy source.

"[It] is still at a very early stage, with discussions ongoing between us as the landowner of the site, and East Riding of Yorkshire Council as the local planning authority."

Sean McCormick, chief executive officer of Lateral Eco Park Hull Ltd, said the scheme would "help provide much needed jobs in the area".
