Lincolnshire Lakes plan for 3,500 homes near Scunthorpe

The housing development will be situated around a series of artificial lakes

The village would include a market square

A waterside business park and leisure facilities are included in the plans

Plans for 3,500 homes in two newly-created villages near Scunthorpe have been submitted to the council.

Construction work on farmland west of the town will start in late 2014, subject to council approval, developer Lucent Group said.

It would be one of the first phases of the Lincolnshire Lakes scheme, which will see 6,000 new homes built by 2026.

The £612m development will also include a business park and leisure facilities set among a series of artificial lakes.

The villages will be connected by a network of walking and cycling routes and the landscaped development will include parkland, play areas and sports pitches.

A new primary school, youth centre, community centre and health centre and local shops will also serve the villages.

The project includes designs by architects Allies and Morrison, who were part of the design team for the London 2012 Olympic Park

The plans will be reviewed by North Lincolnshire Council over the next few weeks before going out to public consultation.
