A woman is celebrating working for 50 years on road crossing patrol outside schools in Cleethorpes.

Beryl Quantrill, 77, started her job as a lollipop lady in 1964, working for the then Grimsby Borough Police.

She has spent most of her time working outside the town's Queen Mary Avenue Primary School.

North East Lincolnshire Council has held a special presentation and a lunch at a local cafe to mark the anniversary.

"I love the job as I love being out in the fresh air every day," said Mrs Quantrill.

"I don't really mind the weather and don't really feel the cold too much. It is also good exercise, I don't have any plans to retire yet.

"I also really enjoy working with the children, they tell me all about the day they have had at school, what they have had for dinner and what holidays they have got planned.

"I have helped several generations of the same family cross the road, including my own."
