Thieves broke in through a recently restored clear glass window
Thieves have damaged a newly-restored glass window panel at Beverley Minster.
The damage was caused during a break-in on Wednesday evening in which a donation box was smashed and a small amount of cash taken.
Humberside Police said a man who was arrested as he climbed down scaffolding has been questioned and released.
The Reverend Jeremy Fletcher, vicar of Beverley Minster, said the damage to the window could run into several thousand pounds.
He added the theft and damage was an "occasion of great sadness".

Minster staff said the donation box had only a small amount of cash in it
"A church like the Minster belongs to the whole community, so an attack like this hurts everyone. Our visitors give generously and their money was targeted.
"Our staff use their skills to restore the building, and their work has been carelessly kicked in, while our congregation this morning was shocked to see the damage to a place of worship and peace."
