Cleethorpes Pier, which was originally built to attract Victorian tourists to the resort, has had numerous owners and uses over the years

A refurbished Victorian pier voted the best in the country has been bought by a fish and chip restaurant.

Cleethorpes Pier, which dates back to 1873 and was built at a cost of £8,000, recently underwent a £5m renovation.

It has been purchased by Papa's Fish and Chips chain for an undisclosed figure.

Earlier this year, the 335ft (100m) pier, one of the shortest in the UK, was voted Pier of the Year by the National Piers Society.

It currently features a restaurant, tea-room and wedding venue and will be turned into a 500-seat eatery.

The venue is set to open in March 2017.
