A man has died after being stabbed in a street attack in Hull.
Police were called to Peel Street at about 20:00 BST on Wednesday after reports a man had suffered serious injuries.
He was taken to hospital but later died. Officers said the man's family had been informed.
Humberside Police said a murder inquiry was under way and a number of people have been arrested and remain in custody.
Det Ch Insp Bob Clark said: "We do believe this was an isolated incident with no wider threat or risk to the general public.
"There was a large group of individuals in the area, which tragically resulted in one man suffering fatal stab wounds."
Ch Supt Darren Downs said the force was putting measures in place "to prevent any further disorder, violence or crime in the area".
"Additional police patrols have been present in the area throughout the day and will remain over the weekend and into next week to provide a highly visible presence and reassurance to the community, and I would encourage people to please talk to us if you have any concerns," he said.
Mr Downs added that a Section 60 order had been introduced, allowing officers extra powers to carry out stop and searches in the area.
