A man caught with dangerous chemicals on his dining table after being ordered by a court not to keep them at home has been jailed for 15 months.

Gert Meyers traded chemicals online and his "experiments" caused dozens of homes in Bridlington to be evacuated in April 2023 and August 2017.

He was spared jail in June for breaching an order and warned not to keep the substances at his property.

Hull Crown Court heard more were found at his home on Oxford Street in August.

The 61-year-old was sentenced on Thursday after he admitted breaching a criminal behaviour order made in June 2017, which banned him from keeping "synthesised chemicals".

During a hearing on Tuesday, Judge John Thackray was told the substances were discovered on Meyer's dining room table.

The judge heard in June how Meyers was a "hobbyist" chemical engineer who had been carrying out experiments for 15 years and had set up an online chemical trading business.

One of his customers was Ukrainian student Pavlo Lapshyn, who was later convicted of murdering an 82-year-old grandfather in Birmingham and went on to plot bombings.

But Meyers was unaware who his customer was until police contacted him during their investigation into Lapshyn, a previous hearing heard.
