Europa House will lose its reflective windows and be renamed the Monocle building

A landmark Hull building is to get a £6.5m makeover after standing empty for a number of years.

The glass-clad Europa House on Anlaby Road will lose its mirrored windows as part of the revamp.

Developer Allenby Commercial said the building, renamed Monocle, would have six floors of office space and a rooftop garden.

A £1.5m grant has been awarded from the government's Levelling Up Funding and the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

Councillor Paul Drake-Davis, said the redevelopment was about "bringing empty buildings back into use."

"The former Europa House building is a prominent and key property in the city centre which has stood dilapidated for many years," he said.

"This is another important step forward in the regeneration of Hull city centre, once again supported by Levelling Up Funding."

The developer said that around 30 jobs would be created during construction and up to 600 jobs when the office is finished.

Work is expected to start soon and it is hoped the first two floors should be ready for occupation by the end of March 2025.

Full completion is scheduled for the end of November 2025.
