Waltham windmill to be focal point of new housing scheme

A developer has said an almost 150-year-old windmill will be the "focal point" of plans to build 150 new homes.
MF Strawson Ltd and Carr (Builders) Ltd have submitted plans for land on Cheapside, in Waltham, near Grimsby.
The proposals include a park running through the centre of the site, with developers saying the work would improve views of the windmill.
No date has been set by North East Lincolnshire Council to consider the application.
The plans include 27 two-bed homes, 71 three-bed and 56 four-bed homes and 20% of the scheme would be affordable housing.
"The proposed development has been designed with Waltham Windmill as the focal point," Chave Planning Limited stated.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, they said the proposals would not have impact on the fabric of the windmill.
"Views have been enhanced where possible, particularly from Cheapside and thus presents views to the general public which previously could only be experienced via privately owned land," they stated in a supporting statement.
There will be two access roads to the development and a new footpath is also proposed to link to an existing footpath.
Pre-application advice was sought in 2021 and two public consultation events were held at Waltham Golf Club in 2022.
However, two residents have already lodged objections, expressing concerns the village would lose its "appeal" and become "just another housing estate".
The village's parish council is due to consider its response to the application on 7 November.
Two recent housing schemes in the area have been rejected by councillors, but are subject to appeals.
