A man has been taken to hospital with what police have described as "life-threatening" injuries after being stabbed in Grimsby.

Humberside Police said officers were called to Heneage Road at about 13:00 GMT on Wednesday after a call from a member of the public.

The force said the man had suffered "injuries which are believed to be life-threatening at this time".

Officers investigating the attack have appealed for witnesses.

Det Insp Darren Gray said: "We are in the very early stages of our investigation, and I have a team of dedicated officers conducting multiple lines of enquiry as we look to establish the circumstances around this incident.

"Understandably, given the nature of this incident, it will be concerning to the local community and locals to the area can expect a high presence of officers providing reassurance whilst our enquiries continue. Please come and speak to us if you have any concerns.

"I would ask anyone with any information that may assist with our ongoing investigation to contact us."
