The works will lower the level of the A63, National Highways say

Drivers are facing road closures in Hull city centre as work gets under way to create a split-level junction.

The A63 from Daltry Street to Roger Millward Way - which includes the Ferensway exit - will close overnight all this week, National Highways said.

It will allow essential works to lower the level of the A63 to create an underpass, with Ferensway and Commercial Road passing overhead.

The road will close eastbound from 20:00 GMT to 06:00 until Tuesday.

'Ease congestion'

On Wednesday, it will close east and westbound, and on Thursday and Friday it will close eastbound but from a later time of 22:00 GMT.

National Highways said if any of the work needed to be rescheduled, it could also close overnight on 21 November.

A spokesman said: "The new Mytongate junction is an important part of the overall Castle Street scheme.

"Once it's complete, it will reduce queuing and delays, ease congestion by increasing capacity, and ensure journey times are more reliable.

"We're carrying out this work before Christmas to help minimise disruption.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate everyone's patience while we carry out these major improvements within Hull city centre."
