Work on a community diagnostic centre aiming to offer thousands of extra appointments a year is set to start in the coming weeks.

The community facility in Grimsby will allow patients to access "potentially lifesaving checks" without having to go to hospital, health bosses said.

It is hoped the centre in Freshney Place will be open by summer 2024.

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust said it will offer 150,000 diagnostic appointments a year.

Services will include ultrasound, X-rays and blood tests to help to cut NHS waiting lists, the trust added.

Councillor Philip Jackson, North East Lincolnshire Council's leader, said: "This is really good news for Freshney Place.

"The centre's footfall is improving month on month, and the opening of the diagnostic centre will be really good to help diversify the town centre offer too."
