A woman was sexually assaulted in Bridlington by a man wielding a knife, police have said.

The woman was walking along Rope Walk at about 21:00 GMT on Monday and was targeted as she arrived at Marshall Avenue, according to Humberside Police.

The attacker, who was described as wearing dark coloured clothing, fled the scene.

Officers asked anyone who had any information about the attack, or who saw what happened, to get in touch.

Det Insp Mark Skelton said: "This woman has understandably been left shaken because of the incident and she is currently being supported by our specially trained officers.

"Locals can expect to see officers in and around the area, following up on lines of inquiry."
