Two men have been arrested after an Army veteran's medals were stolen from his East Yorkshire home shortly after his death.

The medals were taken on Saturday from the home in Hessle of Michael Burrows, 68, a former medic with the Parachute Regiment, who died just weeks ago.

Humberside Police said the men, aged 23 and 44, had been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

They remained in police custody while inquiries continued, the force added.

The medals were taken along with other memorabilia, such as pocket watches and several Zippo lighters - including one inscribed to "Dad" and one featuring Jimi Hendrix.

Mr Burrows' daughter said it was believed they were stolen on Saturday from a bar her father had built in an outbuilding at his home.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the stolen items is asked to contact police via the 101 non-emergency line.

Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers, a police spokesperson added.
