Parents are legally required to register the birth of their child within 42 days

Parents in west Hull can now register their baby's birth closer to home rather than travelling into the city.

Registrars would be based permanently at the Priory Road Family Hub, according to Hull City Council.

It meant parents would not have to travel to the Wilson Centre on Alfred Gelder Street in the city centre to register a birth, the authority said.

Registration appointments for new parents are available twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Parents are required by law to register their baby's birth within 42 days.

The deployment of registrars to the hub comes after they were based there during the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the council's children's services portfolio holder Linda Tock said: "I'm so pleased we are able to expand this service to benefit more local people."

The Priory Road Family Hub is one of 12 across the city which offers early years support to parents.

Services include health support, benefit and family advice, play and learning activities, breastfeeding guidance, mental health wellbeing and counselling and parenting courses.
