A man robbed a convenience store after throwing petrol on a member of staff and threatening them with a lighter and a knife, police said.
He then took a drawer from the till containing money and fled.
The attack happened on Beechwood Avenue in Grimsby at around 06:30 GMT on Tuesday.
The suspect is described as in his 40s and wearing a grey coloured face covering, hooded zip-up jacket, dark trousers, black trainers and gloves.
Det Insp Darren Gray from Humberside Police appealed for witnesses and information about the robbery.
"I understand that an incident of this nature may cause some concern among the local community, and I want to offer my reassurance that we are taking it incredibly seriously," he said.
"Those in the local area can expect to see officers in the community today carrying out enquiries and offering reassurance, and I would encourage anyone with concerns to please speak to them."
